MAKING A SPLASH

This is how often you need to wash your bath mat (and we bet you don’t)

Bath mats can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria

CLEANING professionals advise washing your bath mat once a week to keep it fresh and germ-free.

According to Expert Home Tips, the main problem is that bathroom mats don't get a proper chance to dry out in between uses so germs and bacteria begin to grow.

The severity of the issue will depend on how many people you live with and how often the bathmat is used or stepped on.

The experts also recommend washing the mat around the toilet once a week.

And, it turns out the bathroom isn’t the best place to keep your towels.

Since bathrooms often breed mould and mildew, permanently keeping fabrics such as towels or dressing gowns inside is a bad idea.

Mould and mildew is really difficult to get out of towels and clothing, will likely give off an awful smell and it can even make you ill.

Obviously, you need to towel down after your bath or shower – but try and bring in clean towels from an airing cupboard or another room before you go for your wash.

Then, when it comes to your used towels, or those that need to dry, running an extractor fan as much as possible can help air out any damp towels after your shower or bath - and never leave damp towels on the floor.

And towels aren't the only thing you should consider storing elsewhere.
