      Critics Consensus

Pet Sematary takes its source material in a few different directions, but this remake feels like an exhuming almost as often as it does a revival. Read critic reviews

Mary Lambert's Pet Semetary is one of the better Stephen King adaptions. One of King's most disturbing novels, she captures that sense of dread and horror masterfully. Skip the 2019 remake and stick to this gem.

A chilling supernatural thriller, Stephen King's Pet Semetary is adapted for the silver screen once again. When the Creed family moves into their new country home they discover a pet cemetery on the property, and unbeknownst to them there's an evil spirit in the woods that has designs on them. Jason Clarke leads the cast and gives a fairly solid performance. And the writers do an interesting job at making this adaption different than the 1989 version and at adding new elements. Also, the cinematography and set designs set a dark and foreboding mood. Yet the scares are rather tame, and the suspense is often undercut. Pet Semetary is creepy and is good for a few scares, but it's not as powerful or frightening as the original (or the book).

The only studio that should be allowed to create Stephen King adaptations should be New Line. Pet Sematary deserved to be revisited, but it should have been a more loyal offering. The filmmakers take some liberties with the source material and Rachel's backstory is a failure thanks to some weird additions for added effect. The atmosphere is good and you'll be mistaken for not enjoying the style of the filmmakers. A straight adaptation was warranted and this feels more like a remake of the film in 1989. Lacks a worthy explanation of events and the whole reason for going to the sematary doesn't make a lot of sense. 01/09/2019

A horrible horror film. Once again a stephen king adaptation falls flat.
