Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are as close as they come these days, but that wasn't always the case with the stars of The X-Files.

While promoting their return to TV—the six-episode event series premieres on Fox on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10 p.m.—the dynamic duo recounted their previous 90s feud (amongst other things) with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live. So what was the deal with their tension? Well, you see, Vancouver is very moist. Whuck? Yes, Anderson, through a fit of giggles, told Kimmel she's wondered about the reasons for a long time.

"My hair gets very frizzy…It takes forever. Between every single take, they'd have to stand there and blow-dry my hair again and things take a long time," Anderson said.

"And I got pissed at that?" Duchovny asked.

"Well, I think it added to the tension," she said. "The fact I took so long—is that anything to do with it?"

"Kind of makes me sound like an a--hole," Duchovny said.

Anderson and Duchovny recounted their first meeting (and subsequent disappointment) to E! News when we were on set in August. "Yes, we've actually become really good friends. You wouldn't know today because...we're on separate couches across the room, but we've grown really close, yeah," Anderson told us at the time. And that clearly showed on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The past is in the past and Duchovny and Anderson are back as the iconic Mulder and Scully once again. They even reprised the characters for a parody with Kimmel and finally gave the shippers (they're called MSR fans—Mulder/Scully romance) what they've been waiting for forever: a sex scene. Check it out above.

The X-Files returns Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10 p.m. on Fox before moving to its regular timeslot on Monday, Jan. 25 at 8 p.m. Be sure to come back to E! Online for more The X-Files scoop.
