Won't you be shocked if someone told you that eating with a fork instead of a spoon would aid weight loss? A few researchers have claimed the same. They believe that a slight change in your eating behaviour can help you maintain an ideal weight. According to researchers, people tend to eat less when they use a fork instead of a spoon.
Not only changing their cutlery preference but also using paper plates made people eat less, claimed a study that was conducted by the University of Florida.
It also revealed that if you eat in front of a mirror, it will help you lose weight as watching yourself while eating makes unhealthy food taste worse.
The study

Researchers conducted a study on 185 students. They were asked to choose chocolate cake or fruit salad. It was found that those who ate in the room with a mirror gave less score to the taste of junk food than those who ate in the room without any mirror. However, it had no effect on the taste of fruit salad. Scientists then said, “A glance in the mirror tells people more than just about their physical appearance. It enables them to view themselves objectively and helps them to judge themselves and their behaviours in a same way that they judge others.”
It was analysed that mirrors push the subjects to compare their own behaviours with those that are accepted by social standards. It was also found that while eating unhealthy foods they avoided to look in the mirror as they thought that they were not adhering to those set standards.

Preferring fork over spoon

In another study, researchers asked people to eat chocolate cake with either fork or spoon. They were later asked about the taste and how much they’d like to eat. It was found that people who ate chocolate cake with spoon developed taste gradually. And this tendency made them eat more as they thought they were eating it in smaller quantity. Those who ate with fork ate less as they instantly developed the taste and ate chocolate cake in a limited quantity.
